If you want to make sense of the things going on around the world, including American politics, you must first accept one thing. The entire population of the world is insane.
Now all of a sudden the events that alleged “world leaders” set into motion make sense. For example; why is Iran begging for the members of the UN to bomb them back into the stone age? Answer; Both sides of the internal power struggle hope that they will control the vast majority when it is over. Neither side cares about the people who will die as long as it is not them. Both sides of the political struggle are supported by citizens from within the country and they too do not care who dies as long as it is the other side and not them.
Using this method of understanding world events also explains the genocide that occurred in the Balkan area, the nearly continuous state of war in many parts of Africa, and the general unrest with its violent suppression in the middle east.
Not wanting to look at things from that broad a scope? No problem. Children have been killed by their parents so that they would not have to grow up in the world as it has become! People, normal citizens, kill other normal citizens over things like, parking spaces or religious opinions. Shoppers pepper spray other shoppers so they can be first in line and trample store clerks to death so they can get to what they want before someone else does. Now since we are on a local level do things appear to be any more sane?
What about the woman who filed a lawsuit against a towel manufacturer because she thought it would protect her while she ran up the beach during a hurricane? Perhaps the more publicized one, where McDonalds was sued because their coffee was hot is more to your taste (pun intended). Is this sanity?
If it is then I prefer to be insane. I could never kill my children, I can always find another place to park, religion is a fine institution but I am not ready to be institutionalized, I do not believe that cloth will stop a piece of wood being carried by ninety mile an hour winds and when I order coffee I expect it to be hot.
We now have a fair picture of things locally and on the global scale. The only difference is the size of the event. I hope I will not be shot for a parking space but I also hope that the government will control their spending habits before the US follows Greece, Italy and Ireland into the financial toilet and lets the rest of the world flush it.
The question becomes, is there a cure?
The answer is, No. Like mental illness itself the problems that we all face everywhere in the world can be controlled, but not cured.
Why can they not be cured? Because no matter who gains the power over others it will be abused in some fashion. If it occurs on a national level sooner or later someone will stop it so that they can take over. Dictators have been overthrown around the world and someone else took their place. Did things change? For most of the people, not really.
If you lived under Saddam in Iraq and still live in Iraq now the only difference is that you pay taxes to a different government, one that is not as likely to kill you if you disagree with it but everyday life is little different. The same holds true for the Balkan area, new government, same taxes, same life.
I stand by what I said thirty years ago. The sane are locked away in mental institutions by the state because they cannot except or handle the everyday insanity of the world around them. Yes I said it and for the most part I stand by it. There are those who do need the help that those institutions provide and there always will be. There are also people inside who can function yet still remain there because the outside world is not someplace they want to be.
We can elect different leaders and temporally solve one problem or another but overall nothing will change. Every person everywhere is stranded in the insanity that we have all created. The governments were formed with our tacit approval and we follow them to wherever they lead or in the case of the current US president, don’t lead.
What does this mean for the common person? Nothing at all. We will continue down the road we have paved because unless we change everything at the same time the virus in the broken portion will continue to infect the “fixed” portion.
My advice in all of this? Live as well as you can and be happy. Do not worry about amassing large sums of money, it is just paper. Live and be happy the best way you know how. What is right for me may not be for you and what is good for you is not going to be right for others. So do your best to be happy.
