Yes I mean hurricane Sandy. I live right near the predicted landfall. I am also in an area with an evacuation order. They are taking people to gyms in local schools.
Now perhaps I missed something in the evacuation order. If there is going be extensive flooding why do you place thousands of people in the middle of the predicted flood zone on the first floor of a building? Okay so it doesn’t make sense to you either.
I have not evacuated and will be here and posting for as long as my electricity is on. I live well above the first floor and if water gets into my apartment it is not a hurricane it is a biblical level flood. I am 147 feet above ground so no flooding will occur in my place.
Now as for what is happening, that is interesting.
About two hours ago I stood and watched outside while the waves (storm surge) hit the sea wall about a block north of me. They did not come over but the spray from the impact was a beautiful site. The spray did come over the wall but it would not cause any real flooding.
Yes there are complete idiots in the world. I watched one for the last half hour. In these seas he took his boat out into the ocean. He was tossed like a napkin in a wind tunnel. The boater gave up on trying to get anywhere and went back to the docks. I am not sure what happened when he tried to dock but emergency equipment did respond. I saw fire vehicles but I did not see an ambulance, so thankfully no one was hurt.
Now the winds are strong and the gusts are stronger. I can hear them whipping around the building. The gusting has increased in frequency. Several hours ago they were once every few minutes, now there is less than a minute between them.
Most places are dark. From here I saw two lights in two windows tonight. The rest of the area appears to be empty. The street lights remain on and I have seen the local police patrolling, there will be no looting in this neighborhood
Well for now that is about it. I will keep you all posted on what happens from the inside of Sandy as it progresses, and if I can get any decent pictures with this digital camera of mine (the storm spray cresting the wall did not come out because of lighting) they will be here too.
