My power is back on!
Yes if you watched news footage you saw what I did. A section of the Atlantic City Boardwalk floating down the street. Water levels reached 4 1/2 feet in center city at the edges it was deeper. At one point the water did not hit the sea wall it just flowed over it. I know because I watched it from my balcony.
I am lucky. My damage is minimal, there are those in the area who lost most of their belongings. The lower floors were flooded, debris and muck covers everything. I went out today and found one yes one store open. That is one store in the entire city. They reinforced their door and sandbagged the area where it is, they had little damage.
Most of the residents have not returned yet. When they do they will see what happened to their houses. In one of the outlying areas it was reported, “Many of the houses were destroyed and some were just not there.” When they say not there they mean the lot was empty. Belongings, structure and all were washed away. I am sorry for those losses. They are now homeless. I wish them the best and hope that an insurance company covers the damage.
The pictures I said I would post and for one reason or another I couldn’t. I found out why I couldn’t. I should not have taken a digital camera that was not waterproof outside. Yes I did it. I never said I was a genius. The camera will not even bring the pics up on its screen let alone let me download them to the computer.
They have gotten a good start on the cleanup. I give the crews credit. Two front end loaders have been going through the neighborhood all day. They got most of this area. Congratulations guys, good work!
The president was in the area today and saw the damages. That includes an entire pier that collapsed into the ocean. I tried to get close but didn’t get there in time. I would have liked to tell you what he said first hand but alas my feet are slower than his motorcade. Sorry, I tried.
I will be back later with a story that I wrote by candlelight while the power was out. I love a good pen and legal pad. Don’t you?
Let me know what you think or share your story of Sandy. If you like I’ll post it here or link to it. This is really your blog, I just write what I hear from the people or the stories that you and others ask for. Feel free to give your advice on the next post.
Tomorrow is the start of NaNoWriMo! I will be writing my way to the end. How about you?
Until then be well and write on!
