Atlantic City is reopening. They were taking names and asking why you were coming in until this morning. They began allowing everyone who evacuated back in this morning and stopped checking identification this afternoon.
Tomorrow is the day that the casinos are allowed to reopen and you can make the safe bet, they will.
Stores along Atlantic ave can reopen tomorrow. How many will is the question. pharmacies are closed and we are told they will open next week sometime. There are two grocery stores in the city, Boom and Save-A-Lot. Neither is open, and we hope they will open soon. The only other option is to go to Ventnor,, a neighboring city, and shop at Pathmark, their only grocery store. There is no bus service as of yet so it is a long walk.
The recovery of this city has nothing to do with Obama‘s planned visit. The president wound up going to Brigantine instead because he could get a better photo op. Mayor Langford had things under control here. The cleanup was well under way and left little for the president to stand in front of.
I have to give credit to our mayor (a seldom done thing by me for any politician). 70% of this city was under water and 25% is still without electricity. With those problems facing him he got the job done. He did what was needed and made sure it happened.
Congratulations Mayor Langford.
His efficiency lost him a chance to get his photo with the president but it helped the people. That is why he is in office.
The city should be back to normal by the end of next week. If you come for a visit let me know, I’ll buy you a cup of coffee.
See you all later.
